The Institute of Foundation Models at MBZUAI and Inception42 launched Jais 3, developed with Cerebras, according to WIRED Middle East.

The release includes six open language models plus Jais Speech, which transcribes Modern Standard Arabic and dialects from 19 Arab countries. It can keep English and French words in their original script when speakers switch mid-sentence, identify the dialect and add Arabic vowel marks.

The idea is that you speak instructions in Arabic or English and it turns them into real work, from transcribing conversations to creating documents and presentations. The models are trained on MSA and dialects including Emirati, Gulf and North African Arabic.

Model sizes range from 900 million to 375 billion parameters, so developers can pick what fits their hardware, and they're available on Hugging Face.

The developers say their largest model leads the open models compared on agentic tasks and that Jais Speech had the lowest error rates among the speech systems tested. These are developer-reported results; WIRED did not test them independently.
